malleeflWalpeup Underbool continued their good run of form with an upset win over the Woomelang Cats at Underbool.

The Roos burst out of the blocks and pushed the ball forward on numerous occasions in the first quarter of the game. Brad Dobrowski was in control in the centre and Ben Fisher converted his chances when one out up forward. The Cats were making a number of errors mainly due to the pressure applied by the hungry Roos as the margin quickly stretched out to six goals.

The fast flow of the game continued in the second term as the Cats worked harder trying to make their way into the contest. The Cats were again well led by Trent Donnan who was finding plenty of possessions around the ground. Walpeup Underbool responded however, and were able to kick away again with Ben Fisher booting his sixth goal for the half. The Roos took a handy lead into the main break and it would take a major turn around for the Cats to change the result.

The second half was a close contest with the Cats threatening on numerous occasions, only to be let down by a number of missed chances in front of goal. Arnold Kirby made a number of intercepts as the Cats applied plenty of pressure to the Roos. The gap would be too great however as Kane Munro booted a steadying goal in the final term for the Roos, securing a six-goal win, the second for the Roos in season 2015.

Brad Dobrowski put in another strong performance for the Roos in the ruck and around the ground. The home side would be happy with the efforts of the younger players, Keegan Keely and Samuel Mead to name a couple who are getting better as the season progresses. Trent Donnan was a stand out for the Cats gathering plenty of touches and Jayden Lonergan had a day out booting five goals.

The Southern Mallee Giants have climbed to second position on the ladder after they were able to grind out an 8-point win on the road against Ouyen United.
This was always an important game in the context of the season and the Giants will be happy to have taken the points in this game.

The Demons will be disappointed that, in a game where they were able to give themselves many scoring opportunities, they weren't able to convert and apply scoreboard pressure to their opposition.

The inaccurate kicking started from the get-go with the Demons dominating possession and locking the ball inside their forward 50 for the first 5 minutes of the game only to kick 5 behinds in a row. The Giants finally cleared their defense and kicked a goal with their first thrust forward.

Neither team was ever able to kick clear of the other and the game remained tight from start to finish. The midfields for both teams were going head to head but no one could gain a clear ascendancy. Peter Caldow was doing damage around the ground and when resting up forward finishing with 3 goals for the Demons. Kale Barker and Brad Vallance were also great options going forward with 4 goals each.

A strong third quarter for the Giants enabled them to double their score and take a 10-point lead into the final change. The Demons weren't going to lie down and kicked the first 2 goals of the final quarter to give themselves a 4-point lead. Tom Morrish and Dylan Fishwick were great from start to finish for the Demons. However missed opportunities were still costing them dearly, and the lead soon vanished when the Giants kicked 2 quick goals. Brad Vallance responded for the home side to bring the margin back to 2 points and the game was still in the balance. The Giants did their best to take the sting out of the game by generating numerous stoppages. Lachie Foott was able to goal from the boundary line late in the game, and from then the Giants took control of the footy to eat up the time for the remainder of the game.

Brock Orval was the Giants best. He was dominant up forward finishing with 8 goals and Sam Weddell took a number of important contested marks across half-back.
