malleeflThe Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers have continued their trend of a slow start and strong finish to get over the line against a resolute Walpeup Underbool.

The Roos continued on from where they left off last week to have the powerhouse team of the competition on the back foot and scoreless by the end of the first quarter. The Roos mix of youth and experience were combining well to put the Tigers under pressure, cause turnovers then get the ball going forward with precision. The Roos were glad to have Matthew Palmer back after a long stint out of the senior side, and their in-form ruckman Brad Dabrowski was again proving a handful.

However, we have seen before the ability of the Tigers to turn things around quickly. They came out after quarter time with an altered mindset to swiftly get themselves back in the game. Their senior players took charge, and with the likes of Col Durie, Bernard Rigby and Bryce Scott all playing well, they soon managed to get on top of their opposition.

The supporters of the home team tried to get their chargers over the line, as they were still in the hunt up until late in the game. Travis Latta and Luke Nathan were giving everything, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to get them the 4 points.

In the end it was the Tigers who prevailed by 10 points.

There was another close game this round, at least until three-quarter time. Ouyen United unfortunately let another chance of a win slip through their fingers, this time to Woomelang Lascelles.

Defences were on top for both teams in a low scoring first quarter, with only 1 goal scored between the two teams. There was still nothing in it at half time, but the Demons held a slight advantage with a 7-point lead. The Demons were relishing the return of Zachary and Jason McGlynn, and Dean Staunton played his first game in a while after spending time out with injury.

However, the inclusions of Bryn Weadon and Pierce Liddle for the Cats were also influential, the 2 their team’s best players on the day. Devin McFarlane chipped in with a handy 5 goals, the rest were spread evenly.

A six goal to none final term saw the Cats break away from the home team to win comfortably by 42 points. An important win for the Cats to stay in touch with the top 2.
