malleeflIn the last time that the two sides will ever play each other, Walpeup Underbool and Ouyen United have battled out an enthralling encounter justifying a rivalry spanning many years.

The game was played in the spirit it deserved, a spectacle for the huge crowd that had gathered for the momentous occasion. After a strong first term, it was Ouyen United who were able to hold off the Roos at Blackburn Park.

Matt Palmer was given the tough task on Brad Vallance and although he was held for most of the day, Vallance stood up when needed, kicking two classy goals in the final minutes of the game to seal the win for the Demons.

United slammed on 5 first quarter goals before the Roos were able to boot their first major and the game looked to be heading for a run away win for Ouyen. The Roos needed to improve in a number of areas if they were to be any chance. After a tight second term they came out of the long break full of running to put themselves right back into the contest. Brad Dobrowski continued his good form for the Roos, providing plenty of the ball to the midfielders and gathering plenty of possessions around the ground.

The last quarter had the crowd on the edge of their seats as the Roos worked their way into the lead and looked to be in the box seat until Vallance came to the fore, booting a long goal to wrestle back the lead. The final siren sounded with the Demons taking the win. Colin Keatch had a strong performance for Ouyen United across half-back taking several strong marks.

The Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers have again shrugged off a poor start to be comfortable winners, this time over the Southern Mallee Giants.

The Giants had the Tigers’ on the back foot when they dominated play in the first quarter kicking 4 goals to none. The lead could have been greater for the Giants had they been able to capitilise on their many opportunities. While everything seemed to be going the Giants way early, they were struck a blow when Tyler Lehmann was stretchered off the field with a serious ankle injury.

After the quarter time siren blew it was all Tigers.
As they have been able to do many times this year, the Tigers turned things around quickly booting 8 goals in the second quarter. Simon Weekley kicked 3 during the term and was having an influence on the game.

The Tigers continued on from there, extending their lead at every break. As we have seen in previous games between these 2 sides, Kain Robins and Luke Martin had a great duel, both players in their respective teams’ best.
The Giants battled hard in the last quarter and while they had more scoring shots, the Tigers accuracy with 5 goals straight resulted in a 39 point win.
