malleeflThe final home and away season of the Mallee Football League has come to an end. Both matches in the final round were one-sided affairs with the top 2 teams asserting their dominance as they set themselves for an assault on the finals.

Woomelang Lascelles have given themselves a chance to go straight through to the Grand Final after a comprehensive 77-point win over Ouyen United.

The Cats were firing from the get-go and quickly piled on 6 goals to 2 in the first quarter and it seemed as though the Demons may be in for a tough day. However an invigorated Demons outfit dominated the second quarter. They controlled the game and had 11 scoring shots to the Cats’ 2. Unfortunately for the home team they weren’t able to convert these scoring shots into goals, kicking 1 goal and 10 behinds. It was an opportunity missed and after half time it was the Cats who swung the momentum back their way.

It was the regular contributors for the Cats. Trent Donnan and Jack Shannahan racked up numerous possessions in the midfield and Alwyn Davey was finishing off their good work. Charles McAdam was thrown forward with success, booting 3 majors, and the rest of their goals were well spread amongst 10 goal kickers.

Ben Mole toiled hard all day in the ruck and Dylan Fishwick also battled away to finish with 2 goals late in the game. It wasn’t enough for the Demons and unfortunately one good quarter of footy was never going to win it for them.

Both teams will now set their sights to their respective finals next week.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers came away with a commanding 14 goal win over the Roos proving why they finished at the top of the ladder. After an even start it was the Tigers who were able to edge clear on the scoreboard late in the second term and never looked back.

Jordan Doering was almost unstoppable up forward booting 11, dominating the last half to take a comfortable win. Luke Martin lead the SLNT defence running off half back setting up many forward moves for the talented Tigers goal kickers, and with the midfield on top they received plenty of opportunities.

For the Roos it was Shane Birss who again showed plenty of class gathering lots of possessions around the ground, desperately trying to keep the Walpeup Underbool side in the game but the Tigers had too many winners on the day. Chris Lynch played his 200th game for the Roos on what was the last time the Walpeup Underbool Roos will play as a stand alone club and the last time in the Mallee Football League.
