A preview of Saturday's round 13 games in the Heathcote District Football League.
LEITCHVILLE-GUNBOWER V ELMORE - 2.15pm Saturday at Gunbower.
Last time: Round 4, 2013: Leitchville-Gunbower 24.22 (166) d Elmore 8.10 (58).
Since 2010: Elmore 6; Leitchville-Gunbower 3.
LEITCHVILLE-GUNBOWER - the Bombers can create a piece of club history in the HDFL.
Since joining the HDFL in 2010, they’ve never won more than four games in a row.
But chasing their fifth in a row, that should change on Saturday when they host bottom side Elmore.
Need to keep winning to maintain third position.
ELMORE - it doesn’t get any easier for the bottom-of-the-ladder Bloods.
Lost by 90 points to LBU last week and now come up against the third-placed Bombers, who they copped a 108-point hiding off in round four.
Aside from the abandoned game in round one against Heathcote, still haven’t held a side to under 100 points yet.
HUNTLY V WHITE HILLS - 2.15pm Saturday at Huntly.
Last time: Round 4, 2013: White Hills 14.9 (93) d Huntly 12.11 (83).
Since 1995: Huntly 19; White Hills 19.
HUNTLY - absolutely last roll of the dice for the Hawks to keep their season alive.
A win at home over White Hills would edge the Hawks back within one game of the top five and at least keep their finals pulse beating.
The Hawks had the bye last week, but before that lost four games in a row - all against sides in the top five.
WHITE HILLS - continue to leave the door ajar to the top five on the back of three losses in a row to North Bendigo, Mount Pleasant and Leitchville-Gunbower.
They say you don’t lose your ability overnight, but did the Demons get ahead of themselves after their win over LBU a month ago?
Need to find their mojo again.
NORTH BENDIGO V COLBINABBIN - 2.15pm Saturday at North Bendigo.
Last time: Round 4, 2013: North Bendigo 11.14 (80) d Colbinabbin 12.6 (78).
Since 1996: Colbinabbin 23; North Bendigo 17.
NORTH BENDIGO - shortened further in Sportsbet’s premiership market from $3 last week into $2.75.
Have now beaten every team in the HDFL after last week’s 77-point hiding of White Hills - their eighth win in a row.
Topped up their list this week with the signing of Boort’s Matthew Hodoras, although, the clearance is still pending.
COLBINABBIN - sit sixth on the ladder, but so easily could have beaten three of the top four teams in their past three games.
They’ve lost three in a row to Mount Pleasant (fourth), Leitchville-Gunbower (third) and LBU (first) - all games that were up for grabs at the last change.
Gave North Bendigo a major scare back in round four when beaten by two points.
MOUNT PLEASANT V HEATHCOTE - 2.15pm Saturday at Toolleen.
Last time: Round 4, 2013: Mount Pleasant 24.12 (156) d Heathcote 12.8 (80).
Since 1995: Mount Pleasant 27; Heathcote 12; Drawn 1.
MOUNT PLEASANT - big weekend for the Blues at home as they celebrate 125 years.
The drinks at Saturday night’s reunion ball will taste sweeter if the Blues can knock over Heathcote to win their fourth game in a row and keep on the cusp of the top three.
The Blues haven’t won four in a row since 2007. That should end on Saturday.
HEATHCOTE - the goals have dried up for the Saints.
After booting 16 in their first win of the season against Elmore, they’ve kicked just nine the past two games against Leitchville-Gunbower and LBU.
It won’t erase the three grand finals they lost in a row to Mount Pleasant in the ’90s, but the Saints can at least spoil the Blues’ 125th reunion weekend.
