Mooroopna earned its fifth win of the Goulburn Valley Football League season in a tight match against Echuca at Victoria Park, winning 8.21 (69) to 8.12 (60).
The Cats should have won by more but wasted many chances in front of goal and were almost made to pay for it as the Murray Bombers pushed for the win in the last quarter.
Martin Curtis, Jesse Webster and Trent Freer led the way for the visitors, while midfielder Simon Buckley and defenders Matt Hay and Jack Sheldon were the best for Echuca.
■ Rochester came back from a 19-point deficit at three-quarter-time to fall just six points short against Shepparton United, 9.9 (63) to 8.9 (57).
The Demons led by 18 points at the first chance and maintained that advantage in the low-scoring affair until the final term, when the Tigers made a gallant charge to almost earn them the win.
Tim Looby, Shannon Campbell and Shaun Huy were instrumental in the home side's win, with Paul Currie kicking three goals.
Rochester was led by Ash Watson, Dillon Williams and James Gledhill, while Grant Weeks booted four goals.
■ Kyabram moved into second spot on the ladder after a massive second-half performance against Mansfield, winning 21.15 (141) to 7.6 (48).
The visiting Bombers only led by 16 points at half-time but proceeded to kick a further 15 goals to three to romp to the 93-point win.
Jake Reeves, Tom Sheldon and Jordan Williams were named the team's best in the win, while the goals were shared around with four to Paul Newman and three to each of Sam Sheldon, Axel Childs and Rhys Clark.
The Eagles' best were James Herridge, Ben Vogelzang and Ben Fagan.
■ A gallant Seymour came ever so close to its second win of the season yet again, with Shepparton Swans triumphing 11.16 (82) to 10.10 (70).
The Lions led by 16 points at quarter-time, but the Swans took charge in the next two terms to boot nine goals to two and hold a 30-point advantage.
The home team responded again but ultimately fell 12 points short, with Justin Maddern booting eight goals for the victors.
Jessie Finnen and Andrew Riordan were the Swans' best players, while Jason Cole, Brett Meredith and Paul Colbert tried hard for the home side.
Saad Saad finished with three goals.
■ Benalla proved much too strong for Tatura in Linc Wellington's 200th game, winning 8.9 (57) to 3.4 (22).
In the low-scoring affair, the Saints led by 23 points at the opening change, before both teams combined for just three goals in the next two terms, with the ladder-leaders going on to win comfortably.
Josh Mellington (four goals) starred for the winners, with Ryan Colbert and Lachlan Smith the next best, while Wellington, Tom Sullivan and Shannon Broadbent were named the Bulldogs' best.
■ The final game saw Euroa prove too good for Shepparton, winning 10.12 (72) to 4.8 (32).
The Magpies led by 10 points at half-time but pushed it out to 40 points by the final change and held that advantage.
Nathan Gilliland, James Hayes and Nick Snowdon were the best for the home side, while Nick Allan, Nik Rokahr and Xavier Stevenson tried hard for the Bears.
Staurt Patten also kicked three goals for the winners.
Murray Football League
Moama missed out on a chance to go into the top six on the ladder when it lost to Barooga, 12.10 (82) to 8.10 (58).
Scores were level at quarter-time but the Hawks proceeded to open up a 25-point half-time lead and held the advantage for the rest of the match.
Marcus Smith (three goals), Dylan Brooks and James Philpot led the way for the home team, while Rhys Archard, Tim Scadden and Brett Godfrey tried hard for the Magpies, with Tyler Jones kicking five goals.
■ Deniliquin Rams' terrific run of form continued with a thrilling three-point win against Mulwala, 12.10 (82) to 10.19 (79).
The Rams led by by no more than seven points at every change, but the Lions will be ruing their missed chances after recording seven more scoring shots.
Ash Morris booted four goals for the winners, while Oliver Draffin, Brayden Hall and Tyler Amor-Beale led the way for the side.
Josh Hammond, Jackson Weir and Sean Robinson (three goals) were gallant for the home team.
■ Finley maintained its spot on the top of the ladder with a comfortable 13.20 (98) to 6.7 (43) win against Numurkah, on top in every quarter.
Nick Robertson, Tom Seccull (three goals) and Matt Jackson were the Cats' key contributors, while Jess Koopman also kicked three goals.
Corey Dunn, Jordan O'Dwyer and Lucas White were the best for the Blues.
■ Alistair Corry starred with six goals as Nathalia smashed Cobram 21.18 (144) to 5.3 (33).
The Purples only led by 10 points at the first break but rapidly increased their lead, with Matt Brown also booting five goals.
The team was also led by Bowen Smith and Phillip Carroll, while John Lucas, Nick Hoban and Darcy McCormack tried hard for the Tigers.
■ Rumbalara kicked five goals to one in the last quarter to record an exciting win against Congupna, 15.9 (99) to 12.15 (87).
The Road was on top for much of the game but the home side kicked into gear in the last term to earn the win, with Rex Taylor (three goals), Josh Atkinson and Ash Miller the team's best, while Justin Terlich also kicked three goals.
Regan Sheehan, Matt Shannon and Tate Mifka were the best for Congupna, while Heath Barton kicked three goals.

Ryan Hocking booted an amazing 12 goals and Jake Williams seven as Leitchville-Gunbower romped to a huge win against Elmore, 33.17 (215) to 5.5 (35).
The Bombers kicked a remarkable 14 goals during the third term, helping the team win by 180 points.
Russell Lee was named the team's best player, while Joel Donehue and Joel Helman finished with five and three goals respectively.
Jeff McMurtrie, Jackson Vredenburg and Rhys Mehlstaubler tried hard for the Bloods.
■ Colbinabbin's hopes of reaching the finals series got much harder when it fell to ladder leader North Bendigo 12.15 (87) to 8.11 (59).
The Grasshoppers are now two games and percentage behind fifth-placed White Hills.
The visitors were on the back foot from the start after failing to kick a goal in the opening term and despite the game opening up in the last quarter, were unable to make significant inroads.
Daniel Sipthorp, Anthony Plim and Ryan Alford were vital to the Bulldogs' win, while Colbinabbin was led by Hugh Barlow, David Price and Stephen Tuohey.
■ The round's other big result saw Mt Pleasant smash Heathcote 27.10 (172) to 6.9 (45).
Kain Robins and Luke Milroy starred for the winners, booting a combined 17 goals, while Tim Hill also enjoyed a terrific game.
Kyle Seidel, Marc Millard and Jack Paisley were the best for the Saints.
■ White Hills secured an important away win against Huntly, 10.14 (74) to 7.13 (55).
The Demons only led by six points at half-time but did enough to ease away from the Hawks, with Hayden Wright, Jacob Heavyside and six goals to Ricky Symes leading the way.
Adrian McErvale kicked six goals for the home side, while the team's best were Ryley and Braidy Dickens and Ryan Harris.
Picola and District Football League north-west
Mathoura had its first loss of less than 100 points against Strathmerton in three years on Saturday as the Bulldogs won 24.20 (164) to 11.6 (72).
The home side only trailed by three points at the first break but the ladder-leaders then kicked nine goals in the second term to establish control over the match.
The Timbercutters trailed by 56 points at the last break but then fell away to ultimately lose by 92 points, with Shaun Downie, Adam Graham and Michael Laidlaw leading the way for the winners.
Adrian Crestani (six goals), Zeke Bunge (five), Josh Evans (four) and Zach Fletcher (three) had the biggest impact on the scoreboard.
Nathan Rowbottom, Tim Sparey and Beau Duggan-Hulands (five goals) were the best for Mathoura.
■ Deniliquin Rovers finally secured its first win of the season, defeating Picola United 12.12 (84) to 7.9 (51).

■ Tocumwal pushed Jerilderie all the way but ultimately the Demons proved too strong, winning 16.5 (101) to 12.11 (83).
The Bloods led by 20 points at the first break but were then held to seven goals compared to Jerilderie's 14 for the rest of the match, with Aaron Purcell finishing with seven majors.
Tom Bryce, Andrew May and Josh Hillary gave the winners an edge, while David Farrell, Nathan Tresize and eight goals to Dylan Flanagan gave the home side hope.
■ Blighty booted nine goals in the opening quarter as it smashed Yarroweyah 20.10 (130) to 7.7 (49).
Brody Lumber starred for the Redeyes to boot 10 goals, with Jarrod Wilson (three goals) and Jake Plattfuss also important.

Cohuna stayed on the edge of the top six after falling to third-placed Tooleybuc-Manangatang 18.14 (122) to 12.8 (80).
An eight-goal second term proved vital for the Saints as they pushed on in the second half to the 42-point win, led by Stephen Lyons, Xavier Elford and Ryan O'Sullivan.
Lee Cox also booted six goals for the winners and Michael Dedini chipped in with three.
Luke Eldridge (five goals) starred for the Kangas, while Daniel Paterson, Shane Jacobs and Matt Rice (four goals) also played well.
■ Kerang kept second spot on the ladder with an uninspired 10.15 (75) to 6.14 (50) win against Balranald.
The Blues won the match in the opening quarter when they booted five goals to one, while Luke Cotchett, Brad Pay and Troy Coates (three goals) excelled in the win.
Troy Thamm also kicked four goals.
Ryan Middlebrook, Dane Fitzgerald and Bryce Delmenico tried hard for the Kangaroos.

Boasting almost seven times as many scoring shots, the Tigers blitzed the Magpies led by Ben Heenan, Doug Palmer (four goals) and Will Gunter. Brenten Lloyd also kicked three goals.
Nick O'Neill, Jade Pumpa and Hamish Hooppell were the visitors' best.
■ The final match saw Koondrook-Barham secure a big 80-point win against NNW United, 18.10 (118) to 5.8 (38).
The Raiders booted seven goals in the final quarter to seal the result, with Lucas Matthews, Michael Grant and Marc O'Neil the team's best.
Ryan Evans kicked five goals.
Corey Daniels, Ash Thompson and Brent Daniels were the best for the Demons.
