nthgiplogoAs the North Gippsland football season draws to an end six of the leagues clubs will bid farewell to their 2014 aspirations.

Like the season prior, the final round of the home and away season holds great significance, with the stage set for an enthralling end to an action packed 20 rounds of competition. Saturdays concluding round will be a pseudo-elimination final for two sides who will fight it out for the final remaining place in the top five.

A mere .72 percent separates the would be fifth placed Wildcats and Demons with both sides ironically meeting the competitions top of the table sides in the final round which will decide who claims the final position in the elimination bout.

New kids on the block in 2014 Yarram will be hungry to regain what has been a one handed grip on a top five finish, with the Demons sitting in the five for a fair portion of the season. However, the Demons inconsistencies of the second half of the fixture has seen their grasp loosen with neighbouring club and foe Woodside holding sway.

With a mere 20 kilometres separating the neighbouring townships, the battle of who will claim bragging rights come the final siren on Saturday is set to be determined by a far less number with either a win, four points, or whose percentage can hold firm the deciding factor.

While the men at the helm Yarram's Grif Underwood and Woodside's Chris Pettitt will be left to sweat on the result, for those entrenched in the five this week's hit outs will allow coaches to fine tune their game plan and squad as they look towards the Holy Grail.

Finalists SALE CITY and third placed ROSEDALE will meet on the eve of finals in a fitting blockbuster to conclude the season.

It has been an indifferent month for the Dogs who will return to the finals fold after sitting out last season's campaign.

Winning their past two matches against lesser ranked opponents it is easy to say that Hayden Burgiel's chargers come into the final round of competition in stellar form ahead of next Sundays do or die elimination contest. But between now and next Sundays date, the Dogs will host a side who have been flying under the radar with all focus set on the competitions top two sides.

Contesting a number of enthralling contests in past years, this one is set to be no different. Boasting dominate ruckman, dynamic forward lines which will test the depth and composure of the opposition backline and experienced midfields the competition in the middle of the ground will be an enticing one and may decide the end result.

Dropping the contest by 26 points in round nine, Sale City won't provide Rosedale with the same luxury second time round, and in their current form it would be hard to look past the Saints going close to levelling the ledger at one a piece.

CHURCHILL found their winning streak of 10 derailed against a dynamite Heyfield outfit, this week they meet YARRAM who watched closely from the sidelines last Saturday with Underwood taking note of what the Demons will need to do to effectively shut down a fellow contender in the premiership race.

The last time the sides met the honours went in favour of the Cougars in what could be best described as a one sided, 19 goals the difference at the final siren. On that occasion Churchill boasted 12 individual goal scorers of which seven were multiple scorer with the depth of the Demons back six tested against a formidable forward and midfield brigade.

The Demons can ill afford to allow the Cougars to break out to such a commanding margin otherwise they will watch their finals ambitions fade before their eyes. With plenty at stake Yarram will provide spirited opposition and will give it one last throw of the dice as they aim to make their finals debut.

Making a clean sweep of the season to date, HEYFIELD will return to their home turf to host WOODSIDE who will be out to cause the biggest upset of the season on their way to holding onto fifth position.

Watching their end of season ambitions flash before their eyes in the final round of 2013, with a kick after the siren relegating the Wildcats to seventh position, coach Pettitt is fully aware, "there are still a lot of things that need to happen" for the big cats to make it into the five.

No doubt under no illusions as to the challenge that presents his chargers, Pettitt can take comfort in the fact that four goals separated the sides back in round nine. However, on that day Justin Staley was the Wildcats main man in front of goal and with a question mark over Staley's finger injury the coach will be looking to the past fortnights star performer Ryan Foat to again standup on the big stage.

But it will take more than one individual standing tall, the sides 22 players will need to rise to the challenge and test the competitions number one ranked side if they are to hold onto fifth position and book themselves a showdown against Sale City.

For the bottom of the ladder trio Boisdale/Briagolong, TTU and Gormandale the curtain will fall on what has been a challenging season.

Blooding many youngsters into the line-up during the season, the future stars of BOISDALE/BRIAGOLONG held their own while getting a taste of senior football.

In the final round the Bombers from the eastern end of the competition will see off the season against their namesakes the TTU Bombers.

Failing to back up their break out season with a return to finals football TTU will be eager to seal their fifth win in what has been a lean year. But the TTU Bombers can't get too far ahead of themselves, it was far from one way traffic in round nine, with a entertaining opening term setting the stage for an epic contest.

On that occasion Boisdale/Briagolong's challenge on the scoreboard was mounted by best on ground Jon Burge and Danny Pratt who booted three a piece, while it was a six goal haul from Jordon Anderson that lead TTU's charge in front of goal.

With both clubs hungry for the four points in their swan song match expect a dogged contest.

Despite the sides rankings, the stage is set for an entertaining contest when GORMANDALE and COWWARR meet.

Foes from over the hill, there is little love lost between the sides with the win loss ledger in past seasons relatively even. Despite taking the points in a one sided contest in the opening half of the fixture, the Tigers have shown dramatic improvement over the past month and might just have the Saints measure.

After resigning for his third season at the helm of the Tigers coach Luke Henderson made it known his desire for his side to finish the final month of the season on a winning note, and with wins in past weeks against TTU and Glengarry, the coach would love nothing more than one final scalp.

GLENGARRY has the BYE.
