gvflThe announcement of the two GOTAFE GVFL interleague squads for the new AFL Victoria Community Championships was made this week with strong squads selected for both seniors and u18.5 squads.

The coaches and selectors have been watching games, trawling through footage, talking to coaches to ensure they haven’t missed anyone and the buy in from the senior group has been exceptional with all players excited about the new format.

The ability to have a “city v country” match with a strong metropolitan league in the restructured championships means as a league we can test ourselves against the best in the state.

The EDFL have selected a strong senior squad with some AFL and State League talent and are being led by Collingwood great Mick McGuane. The challenge for the GOTAFE GVFL is definitely there and it’s a job that Scott Beattie and selectors have accepted with gusto.

Our squad in both grades has some phenomenal local and additional talent.

The senior squad boasts players with AFL and VFL experience but more than that this team boast some of the best footballers running around in any country league.

The reason the curtain raiser is an u18.5 game is due to the EDFL competition being an u18.5 competition. Also this gave some of our young players who missed out on interleague last year a chance to play interleague this year.

Jason Wells and his team of selectors have amassed a large squad of players with over half of them so far in season 2016 having played senior football.

Jason’s passion for this age group and interleague is infectious and I personally am looking forward to this young group of men setting the scene for the day.

So now all we need is the supporters of this great league to help our boys show the city what country football is about. We would love for as many supporters as possible to head to Windy Hill on Saturday the 21st May to support the GOTAFE GVFL representative team.

If anyone is interested in getting down and watching training the u18.5s are at Deakin from 6.00pm the next three Wed nights, and the Seniors train at Seymour (Wed 11th 6.30pm, and Deakin (Wed 18th 6.30pm).
