Weekly Times |SHEPPARTON East and Kyabram jointly hold the longest running winning streak in Victorian country footy — but only just.
The Eagles and Bombers replaced Lindenow South with the highest winning tallies this week after the dual Omeo and District premier’s 28-game streak was ended by Omeo-Benambra on Saturday.
Shepparton East reached win No. 26 on Saturday in the Picola and District league South East division, and its average winning margin this year stands at 62.8 points. But there have been some close calls — Shepparton East won three of those 26 games by three points or less.
Coach Dwain Vidler said he did not think his side had played “to our best” so far this season, but its success meant it was also “starting to get a little bit picky as well and expect a bit from ourselves as a group”.
Kyabram’s 26th straight victory in the Goulburn Valley League on Sunday came from the smallest margin out of those 26 games. Kyabram beat Tatura by just four points, the only time an opponent has finished within a goal. It set up a tantalising contest between Kyabram and Seymour, who is also unbeaten this year.
