Wimmera-Mail Times | HORSHAM is considering launching an investigation into an incident that occurred in its semi-final against Horsham Saints at the weekend.
The Demons’ committee sat down on Monday night to discuss the issue.
Video footage has emerged of Saint Dennis Adams making high contact with Demon Beau Nelson in a collision off the ball that left Nelson flattened and unconscious.
The footage shows Nelson eyeing the passage of play when Adams makes contact with Nelson’s head.
Demons vice-president Rod Dumesny said the club was looking into an investigation.
“We are considering it,” he said.
“We have to consider the guy and we have to consider everything.
“It’s not something the club takes lightly and there is lots to think about.
“We have to do what’s right for the guy. He’s got a mum and dad we have to think about too.”
Nelson was taken from the field after the clash.
AFL Wimmera Mallee general manager Stephen McQueen said if the club decided to ask for an investigation, the matter would then be taken over by an independent officer.
“If an investigation is requested, it requires a $500 fee from the club,” he said.
“Then the matter is forwarded to a league investigation officer.
“They will have up to 21 days to complete the investigation.
“The club has to supply any evidence to the officer, along with any witnesses.
“When the investigation is complete, the officer puts forward his recommendations.
“The league will then lay charges or confirm if there was no case to answer.”
If the Horsham decides to go down the investigation path, the presence of video is likely to strengthen its case.
It would be the third high-profile case in the past fortnight.
It comes after Demon Nick Pekin and Laker Deek Roberts were sanctioned by independent tribunals for separate incidents on August 22 and 23.
