AFLcountryWeekly Times | AFL Victoria is exploring the possibility of merging the country and metropolitan senior interleague competitions next year.

The state’s governing football body contacted community leagues yesterday to ask if they would compete in a statewide, ranked interleague championship next year.

The new competition, if it went ahead, would combine the Metro Championships — held in March this year — and the Worksafe Country Championships.

The Geelong Football League is currently the No. 1 ranked league in country Victoria.

It successfully defended its title by defeating the Goulburn Valley league in their Worksafe Country Championships clash in May.

Leagues have been requested to indicate by the end of this month whether they would support the concept.
