rumbalara01Weekly Times | UPDATE: A RUMBALARA junior player has been suspended for 10 weeks after he pleaded guilty to two kicking charges at a tribunal hearing last night.

The incident is understood to have occurred at the end of the Murray Football League under-17 match between Cobram and Rumbalara, played at Cobram.

Cobram won the match, 10.13 (73) to 3.5 (23).

The Rumbalara player was reported for intentionally or carelessly kicking two Cobram players. He pleaded guilty to both charges and was suspended for a total of 10 weeks, league general manager Dale Norman said.

Norman said this was the player’s first offence.

The suspension rules the player out for the rest of the season as there are only four home-and-away rounds remaining for the Murray league.

Norman said he believed Cobram would also lodge an official request for an investigation into another incident, which is understood to involve a third Cobram player, this morning.

Norman said the league would not make a statement “at this stage because we’ve still got a pending investigation so until that’s completed the league won’t be making any statement”.

The presidents of both clubs have been contacted for comment.

Two of the three Cobram players were taken to hospital on Saturday. One was released on Saturday afternoon, but a second player spent Saturday night in hospital and was released Sunday morning.

The player released on Saturday was one of the players linked to the kicking reports, while the player kept overnight was linked to the potential investigation, Norman said earlier this week.
