YARRA Valley Mountain District Football League's interleague rise took a big hit on Saturday when it was humbled by the Gippsland Football League.

The 18.15 (123) to 5.9 (55) thrashing at Moe's Ted Summerton Reserve sent Yarra Valley tumbling out of the Victorian Country Football League's top 10.

Next year, the YVMDFL will face the Mallee League, which smashed Central Murray by 85 points on Saturday.

It was the league's first representative loss since 2008, when it suffered a two-point loss to North Cental-Mallee at St Arnaud.

Warburton Millgrove's Liam Barnard was named Yarra Valley's best player.

Captain Jarrod Bayliss (Wandin), Justin Myers (Wandin), Steven Gough (Gembrook Cockatoo), Michael Paolini (Mount Evelyn) and Jack Nugent (Healesville) kicked a goal each.

For Gippsland, Sale forward Mitch Davis booted six goals, while Morwell playing coach Harmit Singh was a standout in a best-on-ground performance.

MEANWHILE, there was equal disappointment for the league's under-18 side, which went down by 15 points.

Yarra Valley trailed by seven points at three-quarter time before Gippsland drew away in the final term to win, 10.10 (70) to 7.13 (55).

The team's leaders were the standouts with skipper Joel Coombs (Woori Yallock) and vice-captain Gareth Fraser (Mount Evelyn) leading by example.

AND, in the senior netball clash, Yarra Valley enjoyed a 38-25 victory.

Centre Krista Tomlinson (Upwey Tecoma) was a stand out in the representative team that featured six Victorian Netball League players.
