THE Brendan Fevola show rolled into Monbulk on Anzac Day and thrilled, as well as polarised, an audience of more than 3500.

An eleventh hour replacement for former Demon Russell Robertson, Fevola took to the field for the Hawks, captivated the crowd and ruffled a few Upwey Tecoma feathers along the way.

The former AFL spearhead was in the thick of it, and in the middle of every scuffle.

But more importantly, he booted six goals as the Hawks got home in a thriller, 17.12 (114) to 16.13 (109).

“Kicked a few snags. It was a good day with a massive crowd,” Fevola said.

“I copped a beauty, that’s footy.”

Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League chief executive Stephen Walter said Fevola gave the league a mighty boost.

“Fev lived up to his reputation, kicked some unbelievable goals, did some special things and really brought the theatre,” he said. “It was a great community event and everyone’s been talking about Monbulk and the Yarra Valley league.”

For Upwey Tecoma, Daniel Waters booted seven goals and collected best-player accolades.

Meanwhile, in Division 1 action over the weekend, Michael Fowkes spearheaded Wandin to a thumping 68-point win over Emerald. The forward slotted nine goals in the 21.13 (139) to 10.11 (71) victory at Emerald on Saturday.

Warburton Millgrove scored a welcome confidence-boosting victory over Gembrook Cockatoo, 20.11 (131) to 6.10 (46). Scott Muir kicked six goals in the win at Mac Sparke Oval while Shannon Richardson booted four and was the Brookers’ best.

Mount Evelyn rebounded from its first loss of the season by comprehensively defeating Woori Yallock, 15.17 (107) to 8.17 (65).

And newly-promoted Belgrave has consecutive wins to its name after defeating Olinda Ferny Creek, 13.10 (88) to 11.17 (83).
