UPWEY Tecoma has achieved its first goal of the 2013 season, topping the table after four rounds.
The Tigers accounted for Belgrave in an arm wrestle on Saturday, 14.15 (99) 10.11 (71), and, with a superior percentage, are the ladder-leaders, ahead of Wandin.
Coach Greg Spence said his team continued to meet its key performance indicators.
“I’ve been really impressed with the boys’ application,’’ he said.
“We’re working in four-week blocks and set ourselves to be on top after the first four rounds. We are and now we reset for the next block and that starts this week against Olinda.’’
Nathan Wale-Buxton booted four goals while Paul Broecker was best-afield for the Tigers.
Defender Dylan Sloane, who played on Brendan Fevola last week, kept star Belgrave spearhead Mitch Collins to three goals. Collins booted 135 goals in Division 2 last season.
The win also gifted the Tigers the Frank Harris Trophy for the 24th time.
Meantime, a nine-goal haul from Mitchell Fowkes steered Wandin to a 55-point win over Monbulk, 23.13 (151) to 14.12 (96), while Olinda Ferny Creek broke through for its first win of the season when it accounted for Mount Evelyn, 17.16 (118) to 16.11 (107).
Emerald rebounded from last week’s thumping against Wandin with a 15.12 (102) to 12.7 (79) victory over Gembrook Cockatoo.
Zach Monkhorst booted four goals as Woori Yallock defeated Warburton Millgrove, 11.10 (76) to 8.8 (56).
In Division 2, Nathan O’Keefe booted 10 goals in Seville’s 32.20 (212) to 4.7 (31) thrashing of Kinglake while Yarra Junction edged out Alexandra, 11.4 (70) to 8.15 (63), Yarra Glen outclassed Yea, 23.20 (158) to 4.5 (29), and Healesville was too strong for Powelltown, 20.17 (137) to 3.5 (23).
