STRATFORD went down to Lindenow in a round of upsets in round nine of East Gippsland football.

Inaccuracy hurt the Swans, who matched it with the Cats in the opening term but couldn't capitalise on its opportunities to face a 16-point quarter-time deficit.

Stratford again matched it with Lindenow in a torrid second quarter to stay in touch at half-time.

Usually dangerous in the third term, the Swans effectively kicked themselves out of the contest, managing one goal three behinds to the Cats' three straight to face a four goal deficit in tough conditions.

The Cats booted two goals to one in the final term to run out a comfortable 34-point victory. Luke Schumann hurt the Swans on the scoreboard, booting five goals.

Stratford midfielders Corey Scholtes, Luke Clohesy and Tye Morrison made the most of Kaine Kerton's good form in the ruck, while Rowan Marsden and Tim Hawkins were also prominent.

Bottom defeats top

BOTTOM side Lakes Entrance upset Paynesville by eight points in a thriller.

The Seagulls held a narrow lead all day to win 17.13 (115) to 16.11 (107).

Jesse and James Beha kicked nine goals between them for the Seagulls, while Callum Anketell chipped in with three majors. Their efforts were matched at the other end by Haydn Robins, Bairnsdale listed Adrian Gibbs and Derek Hayes.

Damien Ashcroft was named Paynesville's best.

Tigers come from behind

WY Yung scored a come from behind win over Lucknow to get back in touch with the top four.

The Tigers held in during a tight contest before kicking five goals to one in the final term to run out 14.12 (96) to 11.11 (77) victors.

Matt Counahan kicked four goals for the Tigers, while Kane Thomson chipped in with three majors in a best-on-ground performance.

Recruit Andrew Gieschen kicked four goals for the Magpies, while coach Gary Jones was among his side's better players.
