After an even first half at Bairnsdale, with the Eagles leading by 13 points, Maffra pulled away in the third term kicking 7-2 to Bairnsdale’s three straight goals, to lead by 45 points at the last change.
Maffra went on to win 18-8 to Bairnsdale’s 11-4.
Leading goal kicker Daren Sheen, who took control in the third term marking everything that came his way, booted eight goals to take his tally to 59 for the season.
Matt Lee was great in defence for the Eagles and at mid field James Hammill, Kel Porter and Josh Davis all got value for possessions as they set up scoring opportunities for team mates.
Brent Connolly rucked well, giving the on ball and mid field players first use of the ball.
Josh Davis scored three goals, with Adrian Burgiel, Daniel Bedggood and Jacob Weatherly good for two goals each.
James Gibbs kicked three goals for Bairnsdale.
Defender Joel Waters, on-ballers Jason Waddell and Jack Haslam and Stephen Henshaw on the wing were among Bairnsdale’s best.
With 11 rounds played the top five looks settled with Sale, Wonthaggi, Morwell, Maffra and Traralgon certain to play finals.
Tigers crush Gulls
MORWELL set up its comfortable win over Warragul with a strong opening half.
The Tigers booted nine goals to the Gulls one to take a commanding 49 point lead into the main change on the way to a 17.11 (113) to 8.13 (61) win.
The Gulls were more competitive after half time, booting seven goals to the Gulls eight.
Lachlan Dowling kicked five goals for Morwell, while Joel Soutar was the Tigers’ best.
Mark Collison led the way for Warragul.
Maroons account for Power
A SIX goal to one third term set up Traralgon’s 14.12 (96) to 10.14 (74) win over Wonthaggi.
The Power lead a tight contest by four points at half time before the Maroons turned the tables, with Lee Stockdale and Dan McKenna becoming prominent in front of goal.
Josh Jennings and Tim Northe were also amongst the Maroons better players.
Dom O’Connor kicked three goals for the Power, while Leigh Earl was the Powers’ best.
Moe defeats Drouin
MOE remain bottom of the ladder despite accounting for Drouin, 14.11 (95) to 11.8 (74).
Trailing by a point at half time, the Lions kicked seven goals to four in the second half.
James Blaser, Charlie Rieniets and John Chessels hit the scoreboard for Moe, while Leigh Sheehan was the Lions’ best.
Brod Fraser led the way for the Hawks.
