Warragul Gazette | As the Mid Gippsland football home and away season starts to wind down, sides have different priorities.
A handful are fine-tuning for finals footy, others doing what they need to get through, and some are keen to take the scalp of a more credentialed side.
Mirboo North v Hill End
In a long, tough season when wins are rare, sides set themselves to take opportunities when they can. This weekend is one in which two sides, both deserving, want the same thing - a victory to reward players for months of hard work.
Mirboo North coach Damian Turner believes Hill End would be looking to "bounce back hard".
"We need to do the same," Turner said. "Excited by some of the maturity our young players are getting into their footy. Need to remain consistent in this area."
The Tigers are indeed showing definite signs of improvement. The commitment by players to the club's cause is the first step towards showing what most in the league know what they are capable of. Hill End coach Ambu Uliando said the Tigers had been "playing some good footy" in the last few weeks.
"We will have to step up a lot from last week to have a chance," Uliando admitted.
The Rovers' significant loss to Boolara last week is one that hurts, especially when they have managed to fight through games for most of the season. However, if coach Ambu can get his men to bounce back, they might well be set for another victory.
