STRATFORD'S second and third quarter yips continued as it went down to Lucknow in round 17 of East Gippsland football.
The Swans were held goal less in the second and third terms for the second consecutive week, going down 13.17 (95) to 6.5 (41).
The loss saw the Swans drop to third, four points behind leaders Paynesville and Lucknow.
The Swans again had a good first quarter, booting four straight to hold a nine-point lead, but could only manage two behinds from this point until three quarter time as the Magpies built a good lead.
Holding the Swans scoreless in the second term, the Magpies turned a nine-point deficit into a 20-point half-time lead and didn't let up in the third term, holding the Swans to two behinds to extend their lead to 47 points at the final change.
Andrew Gieschen led the goal scoring with three majors for the Magpies, while Brenton Martin kicked two goals.
The Swans, who had six individual goal kickers, were best served by Tye Morrison, David McLay, Lewis Bolton and Jack Bacon. Lachie Heywood battled gamely in the ruck, while Allan Beechey was also prominent around the ground.
Seagulls avoid spoon
LAKES Entrance ensured it would avoid the wooden spoon with a narrow eight-point win over cellar dweller Orbost-Snowy Rovers.
Leading by one-goal at quarter-time, the Seagulls booted five majors in the second quarter to set-up a handy buffer at half-time before holding off the fast finishing Blues.
Facing a four-goal deficit at three-quarter-time, the Blues didn't die wondering, booting five goals in the final term only to just fall short, 14.18 (102) to 14.10 (94).
James Beha kicked four goals for the Seagulls, while Hamish Nettleton also kicked four goals to be among the Blues' best.
Challenges ahead
PAYNESVILLE, Wy Yung and Lindenow all had the bye before facing some challenges to set-up their season in the coming weeks.
The Gulls will face Lucknow this week in a match that could have a major bearing on who takes out the minor premiership.
The Tigers currently hold fourth spot on the ladder, but the fifth placed Cats still remain in contention with a superior percentage.
