Bairnsdale, featuring former AFL player Dean Polo, defeated Maffra by 14 points in Sunday's Gippsland League football match.

The 17.12 (114) to 16.4 (100) victory at home means the Redlegs join Sale and Morwell as the undefeated teams after two rounds of Gippsland League football.

The Redlegs welcomed back former local Polo, who played 77 AFL games with Richmond and St Kilda.

Polo was making a one-off appearance for the home side.

Currently playing with Albury, a split round in the Ovens and Murray league, provided Polo a chance to play with friends and former Wy Yung teammates Kane Ashwood and Stephen Henshaw.

The Eagles went into the match without captain Ben Coleman, James Hammill and David Adams.

The Redlegs had the better of the first quarter, kicking six goals from 11 scoring shots, compared to two goals for the Eagles.

Trailing by 39 points at quarter-time, the visitors fought back in the second term, booting six goals to one to take a one-point lead into the long break.

The Redlegs regained control of the contest during the third quarter, kicking four goals to two to led by 13 points at three-quarter-time.

The Redlegs maintained the margin in the final term, in which both teams kicked six goals.

Michael Coleman, Winston Gieschen and Kelvin Porter used the ball well, particularly during the Eagles' fightback.

Sam Tudor and James Huts tried hard in defence.

Darren Sheen booted five goals for the Eagles and Brad Caldwell four.

Dean Jamieson set-up many goal scoring opportunities for the Redlegs off half-forward. Tomm Bryan was also dangerous in attack.

Wes Russell was strong in ruck, narrowly edging the Eagles' Owen Booth, as well as drifting forward to kick three goals.

Bayden Ashwood and Paul Bills made solid contributions in the back line for Bairnsdale, while Brett Waddell showed skill on the wing.

James Gibbs kicked five goals.

Tigers thump Hawks

MORWELL thumped Drouin 31.22 (208) to 3.3 (21) on Saturday.

Their score was the Tigers second biggest against Drouin, 12 short of their total from 2006.

The 187-point margin was the Tiger's best against Drouin, surpassing that 2006 game.

Dean MacDonald's eight goals equalled a Morwell record for goals against the Hawks in the Gippsland League.

Mannon Johnston, who kicked seven goals, and Joel Soutar were the Tigers' best.

Adam Bailey and Michael Duncan celebrated their 200 and 150 senior game milestones for the Tigers.

Moe mauls Gulls

THE big margins continued at Moe, with the Lions defeating Warragul by 135 points.

Moe won 23.18 (156) to 3.3 (21), kicking its second biggest score against the Gulls.

The margin was the Lions' biggest ever in 191 games against the Gulls since 1909.

The Lions had winners across the ground, led by Peter Ainsworth and Tom Long, who kicked eight goals. James Blaser booted six majors.

Powers ends drought

WONTHAGGI defeated Traralgon at home for the first time since 2004.

The Power began well, booting five goals to two in the first term. The Power maintained the margin to win 11.13 (79) to 8.10 (58).
