STRATFORD passed another test, coming from behind to defeat Lakes Entrance in round five of East Gippsland football.
Trailing by 19 points at half time, the Swans booted eight goals to three in the second half to run out 21 point victor, 10.15 (75) to 9.0 (54).
Led by Andrew Stevens, who finished with six majors, the Seagulls were deadly accurate in the first half, booting 6.0 to Stratford’s wasteful 2.5.
The Swans would respond after half time, adding four goals in the third term to take a narrow four point lead into the last change of ends. A further four goals in the final term ensured Stratford claimed the points.
Josh Kiss continued his good form in front of goal with four majors, while Keiran O’Dwyer chipped in with two goals.
Sam Noone continued his rich vein of form, ensuring midfielders David McLay, Jesse Broadbent and Lachlan Channing received first use. Michael Walker made a welcome return to the Stratford line-up, Jack Bacon was lively across half forward while Rod O’Keefe provided the grunt around the packs.
The win ensured the Swans would keep top of the table status.
Wy Yung extends winning streak to four
WY YUNG extended its winning sequence to four, comfortably accounting for Paynesville 14.9 (93) to 9.12 (66).
Leading a tight contest by 11 points at three quarter time, the Tigers kicked away in the final term, adding six goals to the Gulls three.
While Mark Sellings was well held, Thomas Smith stepped up to kick five goals for the Tigers. Keith Ritchie led the way in front of goal for Paynesville with three goals.
Brothers Bryan and Craig Froud were the Tigers best, while Sam Denby-Blake maintained his good form.
Beau Haslam continued his solid season for the Gulls, while Alex Saunders provided a boost.
Lindenow crushes Orbost-Snowy Rovers
LINDENOW was dominant from the outset in easily defeating Orbost-Snowy Rovers 23.22 (160) to 6.6 (42).
Six goals to one in the first term set the tone, with the Cats booting 13 majors after half time.
Sam Dawes led the way with eight goals, while Luke Schumann returned to form with five majors. David Donchi, Mark Baylis and Justin Blair ensured they had plenty of supply.
Mark McDonald and Curtley Nettleton battled hard for the Blues, while David Waddell and Stephen Zappelli did their best to stem the tide.
