STRATFORD suffered its first defeat of the East Gippsland football season, going down to Lindenow 9.12 (66) to 8.9 (57).
The Cats edged the Swans in a tight round nine contest, opening a 17-point buffer at three-quarter-time. Any hopes the Swans had of a fast finish were dashed, with the Cats having the answers to hold on for a nine point win.
Jack Blair kicked two goals for the Cats, while Paul Gould, David Donchi and Brett Hargreaves won the ball in tight. Morgan Davies provided a target around the ground, while Will Blackley gave the Cats plenty of drive.
The Cats' defence stood up, keeping Josh Kiss and Keiran O'Dwyer goalless, while the influence of Sam Noone in the ruck was curbed.
Jack Bacon kept the Swans in the contest with three goals, while Jordan Robertson proved a handy addition to the side, booting two majors.
Midfeilder Lachlan Channing continued his impressive season, while Nick French, Michael Walker, David McLay and Pat Gordon were other valuable contributors.
Despite the loss, the Swans remain comfortably on top of the table.
Tigers hold off spirited Blues
WY Yung held off a spirited Orbost-Snowy Rovers to hold second spot of the ladder.
Six goals from Dale Lynn ensured the plucky Blues would take the contest the full four quarters, eventually going down 14.7 (91) to 11.9 (75) in a spirited effort.
Tom Smith more than matched Lynn's efforts at the other end, booting eight goals in a best on field performance, while Sam Denby-Blake and Will Hamilton were also influential for the Tigers.
Stephen Alderton repelled many attacks for the Blues, while Andrew Stanton and David Waddell won their fair share of the ball.
Gulls maintain momentum
PAYNESVILLE continued its momentum to power away from Lucknow, 17.16 (118) to 7.9 (51).
Leading by nine points at half time, the Gulls flicked the switch to boot 11 goals to two in an impressive second half.
The Gulls were lining up in front of goal with 12 goals scorers, led by Keith Ritchie with four majors. Ryan Holland, Damian Ashcroft and David Ashworth set up many attacking moves.
Brenton Martin kicked three goals for the Magpies, while Ryan Halford, Gary Jones, Deven Costigan and Luke Bates were among the better players.
LAKES Entrance had the bye.
