THE Yarra Valley Mountain District Football League will launch its new season under bright lights this weekend.

Healesville will host Seville in a marquee game under lights on Saturday in what looms as a huge Division 2 season-opener.

League chief executive Stephen Walter said the match was the ideal way to kick off an exciting season for the entire competition.

"Healesville had Collingwood visit recently for its AFL community camp and raised a lot of money through auction items," Walter said.

"That money has gone into upgrading the lights at the ground.

"It's in good nick now and everything is set for an exciting night, weather permitting.

"I also think they will be two of the stronger Division 2 teams, so it's a big game."

Another showcase match is just weeks away in Division 1 when Monbulk hosts traditional rival Upwey Tecoma on Anzac Day.

Monbulk is primed for a big season under new coach Daniel Ward, who played 136 games for Melbourne.

Ward hopes to snare two former Demons teammates for a handful of Hawks home games, including the Anzac Day clash.

Reigning premier Woori Yallock will again be a pacesetter, while newcomer Belgrave has a point to prove.

On promotion from Division 2 after claiming the premiership last season, the Magpies have retained the bulk of their list while adding quality recruits.

Interleague football will again take centre stage mid-season.

Ranked in the VCFL top 10, YVMDFL is keen to have an impact as it continues to work its way up the ladder. The squad travels to Moe on May 25 to face the Gippsland Football League. Olinda coach Michael Scott will be at the helm.
