DEAN Polo couldn’t take it much longer. The stress, uncertainty and pressure of life in the AFL. After 77 workmanlike games at Richmond and St Kilda over seven years — Polo was done.
The Saints made the decision for him, delisting him at the end of last year, but for Polo — who won the inaugural Yiooken Award after an unforgettable best-on-ground debut in just the second Dreamtime at the ’G game — that call wasn’t met with much resentment.

FOR new Rutherglen coach Darren Hatton the club is bigger than the individual. Though not a reluctant coach, Hatton is not yet entirely comfortable taking the job left vacant by Gil Ould. “Coaching Rutherglen isn’t probably something that I’ve aspired to do; it’s more about circumstances this year,” Hatton said.

The Bulldogs tackle the reigning premier on Saturday and Eames said the Hawks, who won their opening round clash by a whopping 258 points, had shown no sign off dropping off this year. “I’ve got no doubt they’ll be thereabouts again this year,” Eames said.
