Bendigo Advertiser | WITH AFL Victoria’s player points system on its way into local footy statewide next year, how many points should “this” club get and “that” club get promises to be a topic of plenty of intrigue over the coming months.
AFL Victoria has released the draft details of its Community Club Sustainability Program, which as well as including league-specific salary caps, also features a player points system.
The proposed system defines players into six categories ranging from six points (AFL player) to one point (home player).
However, how many points each club is granted will be determined by regional commissions and leagues using feedback from clubs during the two-month trial period in June and July.
Regional commissions and leagues will determine the points allowances for each club based on three potential criteria - population, ladder positions and junior pathways.
Here’s a look at the varying population (based on 2011 Census), junior pathways and on-field senior success over the past four years of the 35 AFL Central Victoria clubs that will help the commission and leagues determine next year’s various points allocations:
