mitiamoBendigo Advertiser | Only one LVFL team has beaten Pyramid Hill this year, and only one has lost to Inglewood - Mitiamo.

MITIAMO coach Denis Grinton wants his side to close the gap between its best and worst as it continues to challenge for a return to the Loddon Valley Football League finals.

The Superoos sit a game outside the LVFL top five with a 4-5 record entering round 11.

Their inconsistency is best summed up in the fact they are the only team to have beaten Pyramid Hill this season, but they are also the only team to have lost to Inglewood.

“That just goes to show that our best is very good, but our worst is also very poor,” Grinton said this week.

“The playing group and I are under no illusions of where we’re at and that we need to be more consistent.”

The Superoos meet Inglewood on Saturday, with the Blues having become somewhat of a bogey side for Mitiamo.

Inglewood has won just four of its past 73 games, with three of them against Mitiamo.

The Blues have beaten the Superoos in their past two meetings - by four points in round two, and by 10 points in round 17, last season.

“I don’t think we’ve shown them enough respect in different aspects of the game,” Grinton said.

“And who knows... they might lift a bit against us because they have had some success and believe.

“But we need to get out there on Saturday and stick to what it is that we’re trying to achieve with our gamestyle every week and not go away from it.”

Mitiamo has missed finals the past three years, but has a list now that has put the Superoos back in the mix for a top five berth.

Gun midfield recruit Doug Thomas, James Drake, captain Dylan Clohesy and Terry Reeves have all been super for Mitiamo this season, while Korey Fulton (23) and Steven Tolongs (20) have combined for 43 of the side’s 100 goals.

Since beating Mitiamo in round two, Inglewood has lost its past seven games by an average of 86 points and is on the bottom of the ladder.

Inglewood coach Jon Starr said beating Mitiamo in its past two clashes would give the Blues some confidence heading into Saturday’s home game.

“I don’t know what it is, but the boys seem to get up and about and having beaten them a couple of times gives them a bit of confidence,” Starr said.

“We’re realistic about it and know they have been fairly good since we last beat them and that it will be a tough challenge on Saturday.”

Ben Conley has been in outstanding form for the Blues over the past month since moving into the midfield, while Ben Rose has also been playing well.
