The Courier |"Lowest of all lows", "disgraceful", "giant step back today".
Not the words you hear come out of the mouth of a senior coach every day, but it was how Brad Murphy could best describe the state of affairs as he watched Grant Bell and Redan absolutely destroy his Melton side to the tune of 173 points on Saturday.
The moods in both camps were completely different, with Bell kicking 11 goals for the Lions, nine more than what the entire Melton side could manage.
While the match will probably be remembered for the lack of effort from the Bloods, it also highlighted the evenness of the Redan side, with solid contributions across the entire field.
Brenton Riordan provided tremendous support for Bell in the forward line, making the most of the opportunities handed to him by a Redan midfield that dominated all day. Such a dominating four quarter performance from Redan was surely enough to please coach Eammon Gill. "We used the ball quite well and we able to put Melton under some good pressure particularly early," he said.
"We were confident after the bye that we could bring our best footy and all the guys were feeling pretty fresh."
While Redan will relish gaining confidence today ahead of their clash with Sebastopol next week, Melton will have a tough week of soul searching ahead of the clash with Bacchus Marsh, with Murphy saying that they will select players who "want to have a dip".
