The Storm had 38 scoring shots to 13 in winning 17.21 (123) to 6.7 (43), although, Strathfieldsaye coach Darryl Wilson gave the Magpies more credit than what the scoreline showed.

“I don’t think the scoreboard was a true reflection. Castlemaine competed well, but we were probably just able to get them with a bit of leg-speed around the ground,” Wilson said.

The Storm had the game well in hand when they led by 53 points at half-time.

Kallen Geary’s red-hot form continued for the Storm as he racked up 45 possessions off half-back in a dominant performance.

As well as Geary, Harry Conway and Matt Smith also generated plenty of run off the half-back line for the Storm.

Up forward, Matthew Ferguson provided a strong-marking target and kicked four goals, while Lachlan Sharp added three.

Since 1995, the only other BFL team to have won at least 30 games in a row was Golden Square from mid-2010 to early 2012.

Castlemaine dropped out of the top five with the defeat.

Among the best for the Magpies was veteran ruckman Mark Oxley in his return to the senior side.

James O’Brien, Justin Dorward and Brian Mustafa were also good players for the Magpies, whose sole multiple goalkicker was Mark Ramsey (two).
