Bendigo Advertiser | KYNETON moved a step closer to breaking its 12-year Bendigo Football League finals drought with a 63-point win over South Bendigo that moved the Tigers back into the top five on Saturday.
In what was the closest game of a one-sided round 13, the Tigers led at every change in winning 19.12 (126) to 8.15 (63) at the Kyneton Showgrounds.
“We were a bit patchy throughout parts of today, but we really got our game going during the second quarter and were able to open them up,” Kyneton coach Mark Adamson said.
After leading by 11 points at quarter-time, the Tigers piled on 7.6 to 2.1 with the wind in the second term to set up a 46-point break at half-time.
The classy Ben Weightman was super for the Tigers, kicking eight goals to take his season tally to 48 and earn best on ground honours.
Ruckman Joel Stevenson, defender Harrison Huntley and Rhys Magin were also among the standouts for the Tigers, who are now one game inside the top five.
In his first game for the Tigers, mid-season recruit James Meiklejohn spent most of the game up forward, kicking one goal.
The best for the Bloods, who wasted the breeze in the first quarter when they kicked 2.7, were led by Jake Miller across half-back, Blake O’Halloran, who played on Meiklejohn, Niall McDonagh and Jayden Sheean.
“They tore us apart out of the middle in the second quarter and we just couldn’t arrest that run-on,” Bloods coach Steven Oliver said.
