Bendigo Advertiser |COLBINABBIN won its first HDFL reserves premiership for 16 years on Saturday, defeating Mount Pleasant by 37 points at Huntly.
Ensuring the club would have a piece of footballing silverware to go with its two netball premierships in its centenary season, Colbinabbin won 10.11 (71) to 5.4 (34).
The Grasshoppers forced the Blues to play catch-up footy after opening a 19-point advantage at quarter-time as they led 4.2 to 1.1 and from there, were able to hold Mount Pleasant at bay.
The AFL Victoria Country Medal for best on ground was awarded to Colbinabbin’s Mitch McEvoy.
Others in the best for the Grasshoppers included Brendan Berlund, Daniel Hill and Stephen Madden.
The loss ended a gallant finals series for Mount Pleasant, which had fought its way into the grand final from the elimination final.
Fraser Cole, Nicholas Kennedy and Nick Edwards were the best for the Blues.

Just like their seniors, the Bulldogs won their first under-age premiership since 1977 when in the Golden City league with a 68-point thumping of White Hills, prevailing 16.8 (104) to 5.6 (36).
The Bulldogs were never threatened after racing to a 31-point advantage at quarter-time.
The Bulldogs’ Bailey Evans (three goals) won the best on ground medal, with other standouts including Sanipepa Egan, Jayden Beqir (three goals), Lachie Watson and Kaleb Kennedy.
Callem McNicol (two goals), Macabe Proposch and Christopher Guess battled hard for the Demons.
