Redan easily accounted for the LAkers on Saturday but the match failed to reach any dizzying heights.

LAKE WENDOUREE 7.5 (47)

REDAN 15.17 (107)

IT wasn't pretty, but Redan did what it had to do against Lake Wendouree on Saturday.

In a match that failed to reach any dizzying heights, Redan stamped its authority in the second quarter, setting up an eventual 10-goal victory.

The Lions kicked five goals to nil in the second term, taking a 43-point lead into the main break on its way to a 15.17 (107) to 7.5 (47) victory.

Grant Bell was once again a standout for the Lions, booting five goals while running through the midfield and across half forward.

Mitch Phelps showed class all day and young Jack Jess played what was probably his best match for the club.

Jarrod Edwards and Matt Colbert were late withdrawals before the match, allowing Aaron Hepworth and Hayden Riley to step up for their first senior matches of the year.

Coach Eammon Gill said it was a rewarding match, but one that was difficult to learn a lot from.

"I think defensively we were pretty good for the whole day," he said.

"They never gave up though, to their credit, and kept coming at us so we couldn't drop off."

Although they never really threatened to steal the match, the third quarter from Lake Wendouree showed the vast potential of the young side.

Isaac Kirby was stoic at full back alongside coach Gavin Webb, while ruckman Matthew Tumminello was influential but quiet compared to his previous matches.

The Lakers booted three of the first five goals of the third term, with Nick Netherway, Andrew Pitson and Nicholas Aringo all getting on the scoreboard.

However Redan had answers for everything and when Bell slotted one from 50 metres and Phelps roved for his second major for the quarter, the writing was well and truly on the wall with the margin at 58 points at the last break.

Redan has two weeks to prepare for a big showdown against East Point, while Lake Wendouree has a double-bye to contend with.
