REDAN has added another name to its long-term injury list in the Ballarat Football League, with key recruit Scott Henning to possibly miss the remainder of the season.
The former North East Australian Football League player has suffered a groin/adductor injury and is facing a long stint on the sidelines.
Add Henning’s injury to that of Redan ruckman Brent Dickinson last week and the inability of Jarrod Edwards to play much football due to work commitments, and Redan’s depth will soon start to be put to the ultimate test.
Henning came to Redan this season after moving to Ballarat from Canberra at the start of the year due to family reasons.
He played for the Lions in the first three games of the year, before being forced out with what the club described at the time as a minor groin complaint.
However Henning has now been out of action for almost a month, with a return date becoming even more unclear.
Coach Eammon Gill said the boom recruit would be out for a month at the minimum, but conceded there was no certainty in when he would be back in maroon and gold.
“It’s hard to tell at this stage. He’s seen a couple of specialists and what not but it doesn’t seem to be getting much better,” Gill said.
“When you have guys the wrong side of 30, you have to be more careful. It’s a pity, because he was getting better with every game he played.”
Despite being new to the club just this year, Henning is remaining heavily involved with the club.
Gill said he was still attending training sessions, match days and club functions.
Jarrod Edwards, who controversially returned to the club after crossing to North Ballarat City in the pre-season, is another key name that has been out of action for the Lions for some time.
The four-time Henderson Medallist has not played since round three due to niggling injuries and work commitments and has not been named in tomorrow’s side to take on Melton.
Gill said he hoped to have Edwards play the mandatory three matches throughout the year to qualify for finals.
“Having these guys out does hurt, but it just gives guys other opportunities to step up, which they are doing pretty well so far,” Gill said.
