EAST Point’s imposing start to the 2013 fixture comes to a head tomorrow, as it travels to meet reigning premier Sunbury.
The Kangaroos have now played all of last year’s five other finalists in the first seven rounds, but still sit well placed with four wins and two losses.
The Ballarat Football League world has hardly been set alight by East Point, but sitting in fourth position is more than a pass mark for Dan Jordan and his troops.
But a road trip to Sunbury, easily the hardest trip in the BFL, is certain to put the Roos to the ultimate test.
A 109-point thrashing in round one at the hands of North City showed East has a way to go to match it with the best of the best.
As somewhat of a surprise to many, the Roos also went down to Redan last week, losing by 55 points.
“We certainly weren’t on last week,” said coach Dan Jordan.
“We have to learn from it, but at the same time it was one of those matches we want to put behind us and forget about.
“We know we’ve had a tough draw, that’s just the way footy goes.
“If someone said at the start of the season we would be 5-2, I’d take that.
“But we’re not 5-2 yet, so there is heaps of work left ahead of us.”
After being comfortably beaten by Redan last week, Jordan has made three changes to the side.
Bart Phillips and Brent Fitzpatrick come back into the line-up and Joel Van Meel will play his first match for the year after returning from overseas.
James Park will miss with a slight hamstring complaint, while Jack Watkins and Mitch Taylor will drop back to the twos.
Although still undefeated, Sunbury has looked far from unbeatable in a number of games this year.
Coach Rick Horwood last week conceded his side was well below its best against Bacchus Marsh and said there would need to be a turnaround in form this time around.
A mostly unchanged Eastern Lions outfit looks set to take to the park, with James Rizk named at half back and Jack Sheahan to fill a role a key position role at centre half forward.
PREDICTION: Sunbury to flex its muscle.
