WYCHEPROOF-Narraport star Corey Jones has reaffirmed his status as the North Central Football League’s premier player by winning the Feeny Medal.
Jones polled 24 votes to win the Feeny Medal on Wednesday night.
Jones finished seven clear of last year’s joint winner, St Arnaud coach James McNamee, who polled 17 votes.
Jones and McNamee were the only players to poll more than 13 votes.
Wednesday night’s win caps a big home and away season for Jones, who, as well as his stellar form on the ground, coached the NCFL to its 61-point inter-league win over Geelong District in May when he was the best player, while he also played in the E.J. Whitten Legends Game in July.
The 32-year-old – who previously played 157 AFL games for North Melbourne between 2001 and 2010 – polled in 10 of the Demons’ 16 games, including five best on grounds.
As well as the Feeny Medal, Jones was the joint winner in the Tooleybuc Sporting Club president’s award with Birchip-Watchem ruckman Zac Holmes.
The pair polled 27 votes to tie for the award.
Jones finished second in the league goalkicking with his tally of 54 goals behind Wedderburn spearhead Sam Barnes (59).
Jones and his Wycheproof-Narraport team-mates will be in action this Saturday in the first semi-final against two-time defending premiers Wedderburn at Charlton.
