ONE brother’s pain is another brother’s gain.That is the case at North Ballarat City, who have dropped Clay Jenkins for the Ballarat Football League grand final to make way for older brother Mitch.
With Mitch coming back from a shoulder injury he sustained three weeks ago in the qualifying final, there was little room in the side for his younger brother in the starting 22.
Star forward Derick Micallef has also missed out on selection but has been named as second emergency, behind Jenkins.
However, North Ballarat City coach Rob Waters had declared all week that Micallef would be given right up until the last minute to prove his fitness.
Daniel Kilpatrick also appears to have recovered from an ankle injury and is named to start in the centre, with youngster Matthew Johns also coming in as an emergency.
Meanwhile, in a shock move by Sunbury, Scott Lobb has been dropped after playing every game for the season for the Lions.
A 2004 and 2012 premiership Sunbury premiership player, Lobb will miss out on the chance to win his third BFL premiership medal.
He exits the side alongside Matthew Parker, who played 13 senior games this
year.
Sunbury coach Rick Horwood said it was a hard decision to leave both Lobb and Parker out of the side.
“It was really tough but you have to go with the team you think will perform the best on the day. It all comes down to match-ups,” he said.
Into the Sunbury side comes Andrew Duhau who, like Jenkins, has not played since the elimination final against Ballarat in week one of the finals series.
He has been named to start on the half-back flank, while Jack Sullivan comes into the side and is expected to start at centre half-forward.
