Logo Maryborough1Bendigo Advertiser |MARYBOROUGH coach Jamie Bond says his young side learned the harsh lesson of just how costly lapses can be in their opening match of the Bendigo Football League season last week.

 

Maryborough and Castlemaine both won two quarters apiece in their round one battle. Yet Maryborough copped a 79-point hiding after it was outscored 10 goals to nil in the third quarter.

In round two the Magpies make the longest trip in Bendigo football on Saturday to take on Gisborne at Gardiner Reserve.

"It was really only the one quarter that let us down last week. They got on top of us in the third quarter, so we'll be working hard to make sure that doesn't happen again on Saturday," Bond said.

"And our disposal needs to improve. We missed targets and couldn't hit our forwards, so cutting down those basic skill errors is what we've been working on at training this week.
