Logo SouthBendigo1Bendigo Advertiser | SOUTH Bendigo notched its first win of the Bendigo Football League season in style on Saturday, dispatching an error-riddled Gisborne by 61 points.

The Bloods swamped the Bulldogs with four-quarters of pressure football and in the third quarter, in particular, looked anything but a side that had won just two of its previous 23 games after slamming on seven goals to one to set up the 12.19 (91) to 4.6 (30) victory at the QEO.

Gisborne coach Rod Sharp took an old-school approach to the woeful performance of his now 1-4 side, ordering a Sunday 6am training session.

At Camp Reserve, Castlemaine almost pulled off another round five upset against Eaglehawk.

The Magpies led at every change, but the Hawks kicked three goals to one in the final term to win by the barest of margins, 9.15 (69) to 10.6 (68).

Golden Square improved to 4-1 with a comfortable 64-point win over Kyneton at MyJet Oval, jumping the Tigers in the first half on the way to a 17.10 (112) to 7.6 (48) victory.

In the most one-sided game of the season so far, unbeaten Strathfieldsaye inflicted another heavy defeat on Maryborough, winning by 136 ponts - 24.24 (168) to 5.2 (32) - at Flight Centre Park.

And Sandhurst comfortably accounted for Kangaroo Flat, 17.24 (126) to 7.8 (50), under lights at Bendigo Mazda Oval.
