Sunbury remains undefeated atop the Ballarat Football League ladder following a clinical display against Lake Wendouree on Saturday afternoon.

SUNBURY 24.13 (157)

LAKE WENDOUREE 4.8 (32)

Despite missing nine players from last year's premiership side the Lions were a class above, accounting for its inexperienced and undermanned opponent by 125 points.

Lake Wendouree got first use of a stiff breeze that favoured the city end of Clarke Oval, yet it was Sunbury that piled on seven goals to one in the opening term, including two each to Matthew Medcraft and Josh Burgess.

Medcraft's first goal was a beauty, evading three opponents in heavy traffic before slotting it off the outside of his boot.

At quarter time, Lakers coach Gavin Webb who repelled several attacks with strong marks across half-back implored his players to be more accountable, however the gulf in skill level became more evident the longer the game went.

While the Lions repeatedly found targets through the centre of the ground, Lake Wendouree's decision-making and skill execution was poor.

Other than Webb and big-man Matt Tuminello, it was hard to find winners across the ground, although a case could be mounted for forward Nick Aringo, who finished with 2.2 from limited opportunities.

Dale Cuinik, who bagged five majors for Sunbury, fittingly kicked the last goal of the day just as the siren sounded.

"We were unselfish and very efficient and overall it was a terrific team effort. Our 12 or 13 goalkickers proves that point," coach Rick Horwood said.

"Full credit to Lake Wendouree though. They're a very young side and it would've been easy for Webby to throw guys behind the ball, but he didn't."

Webb conceded that his team was a work in progress.
