ADAM Sewell has been reappointed as the Central Highlands Football League’s senior interleague captain.

The Newlyn joint-coach will skipper the Highlanders for the second year in a row after leading them to victory against Ellinbank and District at Nar Nar Goon in 2012.

That clash was the Central Highlands’ first senior interleague bout since 1997.

Sewell, last season’s runner-up league best and fairest, will captain the side for the fixture against Ovens and King, at Buninyong, next Saturday.

“It was a really good honour to be asked last year and for (coach) Shane Skontra to put faith and trust in me again this year to lead the guys is a great honour again,” Sewell said.

The midfielder played in the Cats’ 2003 senior premiership before embarking on a six-year stint with the Ballarat Swans, which also netted a flag in 2008.

He returned to Newlyn last year alongside joint-coach Chris Gardner, leading the club to finals.

Sewell, 27, was reappointed to the role by the Central Highlands coaching panel, headlined by Skontra, who will form the playing squad at training next week.

The Highlanders ramp up their training schedule with sessions tomorrow at St Patrick’s College and on Tuesday and Thursday at Buninyong, where the final team will be announced.

A total of seven new players to the league this season remain in contention for the senior side, including Alex Code (Creswick), Dan Kelly (Waubra), Josh Discher (Waubra), Tyrone Ross (Skipton), James Sullivan (Bungaree), Beau Guest (Buninyong) and Jaye Cahir (Dunnstown).

Next Saturday’s fixture will include an under-18 intra-league football curtain-raiser and open and 17/under netball matches against Ovens and King.

SCHEDULE
