BUNINYONG'S eight last-quarter goals drove the knife into the heart of Daylesford as the Bombers exacted some sweet revenge on their grand final conquerors of last year.
BUNINYONG 19.15 (129)
DAYLESFORD 5.2 (32)
The systematic dismantling of the reigning premier on Saturday was from start to finish and left the side undefeated on top of the Central Highlands Football League ladder.
There's no doubt Buninyong has bigger plans in mind, but the comprehensive 19.15 (129) to 5.2 (32) victory at Daylesford was hard for coach Joe Gilbert not to raise a smile about.
"It was the best performance of the year. Most of the boys were pretty switched on right the way through the game," Gilbert said.
"There wasn't a lot of lapses in our intensity, but there was a couple of lapses with our skills and where we put the footy."
The loss of gun midfielder Michael Cummings to a knee injury in the first quarter and fellow ball-winner Luke Adams after a bad knock to the head in the second term worked against the home side, which barely threatened a Bombers outfit that never let up for the entire four quarters.
Buninyong had injury problems of its own when Glen Phelps' hamstring went in the first term, but it mattered little to the team structure, with big Eddie Prato proving the major presence up forward with four goals.
Prato took a number of marks, and should have had many more, while goal sneak Jarrod Rodgers (four goals) and best-on-ground Sam Turner (three) also proved handy contributors to the score.
Daylesford managed just five goals for the afternoon and such was the dominance of the Bombers, who were controlled across half-back by the in-form Tyler Dittloff and skipper Adam Scott, that the home side barely had any more chances than those it converted.
Bulldogs' coach Andrew Button, who was forced up the ground with fellow forward Seb Walsh due to a lack of service, found it hard not to be impressed with his rivals.
"At the end of the day, they were far too good," Button said.
"I thought we hung in there for the most part, but to fall away like we did again
was disappointing."
A shoulder injury to defender Jesse Brown also left the Bulldogs with just one fit man on the bench for much of the contest.
Daylesford's second-straight defeat leaves it fourth on the ladder heading into the interleague break.
