IT took three quarters of grinding football before the Geelong Amateur blew away Torquay by 65 points.
A full ground press by the Ammos locked the ball in their half, but created some congestion, so most of the footy was dull.
For all this work they were unable to capitalise until the last term.
The professional, four-quarter breakdown of a quality opposition in Torquay pleased Ammos co-coach Cory Bauer.
"We tried to put the pressure on them to keep the footy in our forward half," Bauer said.
"We asked the guys at three-quarter time to continue going because we wanted to play four quarters and it didn't need to be pretty."
Bauer credited the backline, who were pivotal in creating the press and lending a helping hand to Zach Jones, who had the job on in-form goal kicker Scott Hughes.
"It was a big job for Zach. Again we set the task for him and Hughes kicked 13 last week, but he loves a challenge," he said.
"We thought the back six were fantastic today."
The Ammos were keen to earn back some respect after last week's performance against Queenscliff and they did that in front of a big crowd on a perfect Sunday afternoon.
"We reviewed last week's loss pretty thoroughly and we trained to adjust a few of the things that were lacking," Bauer said.
"We came to make a point that we can't put two performances like last week together in a row.
"We wanted to make a bit of a statement, I guess. We're better than what we dished up last week."
From Torquay's perspective the match was disappointing.
It failed to run and carry through the Ammos' press and only had three goal kickers for the match.
Late goals from coach Craig McCaughan were met with dead silence as the Ammos had well and truly squashed the Tigers' spirit.
"Hopefully today's a reality check for us and we can get a bit more confidence in ourselves because I think we lost a lot today," McCaughan said.
Torquay was missing two key structural players in ruckman Michael McFarlane and leading forward Michael Clayton.
McCaughan was hopeful that he would regain them in the coming weeks.
