GEELONG Amateur has applied another stranglehold to definitively end Ocean Grove's season with a 90-point thrashing.

The Grubbers were kept to 12 scoring shots and 42 points, a near exact replica of the 14 scoring shots and 44 points Torquay was held to the previous week.

New co-coaches Cory Bauer and Andrew Lovick have brought an 18-man defensive press over with them from St Joseph's in the GFL and, with the exception of Queenscliff, BFL teams do not seem to have the poise and skills to break through this zone.

This sort of defence requires discipline and if the Ammos can keep this up it will become a cornerstone of their premiership campaign.

"We're currently ranked No.1 in defence and that's a real focus for us," said Bauer, who did not play due to general soreness.

The Ammos have conceded only 691 points for the year and their leading percentage of 201.3 per cent reflects this defensive dominance.

"We've got some quality backmen in there. We've got a mix of experienced guys and younger guys who are learning off the older guys," Bauer said.

"In that third quarter Ocean Grove had more entries than us, but to keep them to 1.4 is a fantastic effort.

"It's guys like Zach Jones, who absolutely hates to get beaten, throw in Travis Robertson and Marc O'Donohue, and it's these guys who can really set the game up for us."

The reserves also had a big win over a hapless Ocean Grove, showing a stark contrast between the depth of talent at the two clubs.

The Ammos were also able to blood two youngsters in Colts-aged players Nick Nott and Will Langley.

Nott filled in for Chris Kangars in the ruck and competed well, while Langley is a Geelong Falcons-listed dangerous left-footer who got on the end of a couple and had a hand in more.

"Nick Nott did everything we asked of him. He didn't have to go out there and dominate but he had a real input," Bauer said.

"We had Will Langley, who missed out on a game down at the Falcons.

"We're not really sure how much we're going to get of him but at the same time, for his own footy good, we'd prefer to see him up at the Falcons."
