ST ALBANS coach Clinton Proctor had nothing but praise for St Joseph's after they gave the Saints a 63-point hiding.
St Albans have earned the respect of the competition this season under Proctor's leadership - but Saturday's effort undid some of that hard work.
"We just didn't turn up," Proctor said. "Full credit to Joeys. They're a great side and play a great brand of footy. We did our research and paid respect to their better players, but they were just too good for us.
The St Albans coach said getting "smashed" in the midfield and being unable to stop a number of the Joeys' key players were the main reasons for the loss.
While he wasn't blaming anyone, Proctor has put it on his more experienced players to stand up and turn things around - something he believes they didn't do on Saturday when he needed them to.
"Our experienced players were pretty poor and we become too complacent at times," he said. "We have too many blokes that just think others will do it for them - that Raph Clarke will do it all or Alex McLeod will kick a bag. These guys need to start doing it themselves."
