ST Albans coach Clinton Proctor said his team simply "deserved to win" after pulling off a 32-point upset over St Mary's in the only GFL game to be played on Saturday.
This time last week Proctor claimed his side was carrying passengers, but this week there were none, as the Supersaints lifted their record to 5-7.
"The boys were terrific and the best thing was that there were 22 contributors," Proctor said.
"I can't doubt their endeavour and their effort and I thought our contested footy was really good.
"The boys deserved to win."
As the match was about to start the rain began to fall at St Albans Reserve and both teams knew an early lead was crucial.
St Albans made its move in the second term, moving out to a 14-point lead by the main change.
St Albans had less scoring opportunities in the third term but found some accuracy as it booted 3.1 while St Mary's had the yips resulting in just five behinds for the quarter.
With the lead now out to 28 points and just one quarter to play, the clouds hovering over St Albans Reserve looked more threatening than St Mary's.
The final term was far from exciting although for St Albans the 2.2 to 1.4 quarter was enough to seal the upset win, its fifth for the season and arguably its most meaningful.
Proctor said it was a big day for St Albans and the feeling in the rooms after the victory backed that up.
"It was a really big day for the club, obviously we were the only game on in the GFL and we started just the same way back in Round 1 and the boys honestly cracked under all of the pressure," he said.
"We didn't really speak much about it this week, but it's like the elephant in the room.
"It (the win) was pivotal to our season, if we had lost to St Mary's going into the bye that's two losses in three weeks and it becomes very hard to get the players up."
As he has done so all season former St Kilda defender Raph Clarke was outstanding for his new club constantly mopping up across half back and offering plenty of drive.
It was a clear team performance from the Supersaints, though Proctor felt Clarke was invaluable.
"Raph is really good, I just wish we could spend more time with him down here. He's a really smart player and sets us up from behind the play and gives us good shape, he was terrific again," he said.
"Having Raph out there is like having a second coach on the field, he is basically our back-line coach, he is the general back there."
Proctor said his team now wanted a big scalp.
"We want to knock off one of the top teams," he said.
"There's six weeks left in the season and we are all going to commit and work hard to achieve that.
"On our day I believe we can match it with any of the top sides."
