BRETT Jackman's appeal against a 10-match suspension for making contact with an umpire will be heard in Melbourne on Wednesday night.

The Football Geelong tribunal last week found the St Joseph’s assistant coach guilty of making contact with umpire James Milligan during the third quarter of the Joeys' win over St Albans last Saturday.

The appeal will be heard at the AFL Victoria Boardroom at Visy Park on Wednesday at 6pm.

Jackman pleaded not guilty, but told the tribunal he made contact with the umpire to get his attention and explain his actions after a free kick was paid against him.

Milligan told the tribunal he rated the force a five out of 10, adding it made him take a step backwards and caught him by surprise.

There was no video of the encounter.

Jackman's contact was reportedly similar to Heath Shaw's touch on umpire Michael Vozzo in a Collingwood-Geelong clash in 2009. Shaw copped a one-match ban and a $1950 fine.
