GEELONG West moved back into the top five with a comprehensive defeat of Anakie, after a "massive" week for the club.

Post match Cheetahs coach Nick Washington was confident his side had found its winning formula and spoke of the in-depth look the coaching staff took at the club's performance, which could prove pivotal for the side moving forward.

"We had a good look through the stats this week; we got all our games and broke them down into quarters, figured out where we were falling down ... the right 22 (players) have been selected today, a side that's fully committed," Washington said.

"If we don't get off to a good start we struggle ... a lot of it comes down to our preparation. It's imperative that we have a really good preparation before the game and get the boys pumped.

"We've changed a few things today, we cranked AC/DC Back in Black and just had it smashing, the boys were buzzing."

In what has been an up-and-down season for Geelong West, the crucial win over Anakie puts them in position A to take the final spot in the top five.

Washington was adamant his side was full of belief and ready to deliver a long-awaited finals berth.

"We're a young side that's learning what suits us and our style of play, we've got a definite game plan now and I think you saw a lot of it today ... I think we found ourselves today, we played as one unit, which was absolutely fantastic.

"We've got to get there (finals) and it's my job to get us there and I'll do it."

Brendan Wall was clearly best afield in the 55-point win, racking up possessions out of defence and setting the side up brilliantly with his silky skills, alongside fellow play makers Robbie Sims and Justin White, who continued their great form. Alex Denham was also prominent, coming on late in the first half to finish with six goals.

"He (Wall) is unreal, he's a brilliant player ... Wall going back for us has been phenomenal, he just sets up so much play."

Geelong West burst out of the blocks with a superb opening quarter, Daniel Baker setting the side into motion with the first two majors. The home side held Anakie goalless to take a 25-point lead into quarter time.

The Cheetahs continued to control the match and extended the lead to 39 points early in the second. The Roos rallied to take the initiative from the stoppages and, in turn, work their way back into the match.

Jamie Pitman's third goal early in the third term brought the margin back to 28 points, but that was the closest it got for the remainder of the game. With the margin standing at 59 points at three-quarter time, Anakie managed to salvage something from the match, winning the final term, the Cheetahs eventual winners to the tune of 55 points.
