CRESWICK is well placed to secure back-to-back Central Highlands Football League finals appearances after returning to the top eight with victory over Gordon today.

The Wickers produced a mini upset on home soil, prevailing in a slog at Doug Lindsay Reserve to win by 12 points, 11.12 (78) to 10.6 (66).

With Learmonth losing a heated encounter against Springbank by 70 points, that allowed the Wickers to leapfrog the Lakies into eighth spot on the ladder and return to the finals bracket for the first time since mid July.

A second-straight finals berth now looks promising, with the Wickers required to defeat Newlyn in the last home and away round to secure eighth spot.

This afternoon's defeat ends Gordon's top four hopes, with Hepburn's gutsy 12-point win over Bungaree leaving it a game clear over the chasing bunch in fourth.

Meanwhile, Buninyong sealed the minor premiership with a 29-point victory against Beaufort.

Other round 16 results were: Waubra 16.10 (106) d Dunnstown 5.7 (37), Newlyn 15.23 (113) d Illabarook 2.2 (14), Clunes 15.12 (102) d Rokewood-Corindhap 7.3 (45), Ballan 13.13 (91) d Skipton 11.5 (71) and Daylesford 31.10 (196) d Carngham-Linton 5.5 (35).
