JARROD Morgan has been appointed Buninyong's senior coach for the 2014 Central Highlands Football League season.
Morgan has stepped up from captaincy following Joe Gilbert's resignation at the end of last season.
"I was obviously pretty happy with the appointment," Morgan said.
"We have a really strong list and we have maintained it.
"The stuff Joe has put in is sensational.
"My view is to not re-invent the wheel, but to add to what we've got and tweak a few little bits to the game plan to take the game further."
Morgan said it was too early to say what Gilbert's involvement in the club would be.
"I have spoken to Joe a couple of times, I'm not sure what he will be doing.
"He might be just staying on as a player, but he's stepping back from any coaching involvement."
Morgan has plans to inject players from the under-18s into the seniors.
"The greatest challenge is getting game time into our young kids.
"We have 18 players from the under-18 group who are moving into senior ranks, and there's some good kids there."
Gilbert coached the Bombers for eight years.
Buninyong secretary Leigh Edward said Morgan would carry the club forward into a promising future.
"We have been going through the process, he applied for the position and at the end of the day Morgan's credentials were the perfect fit for taking the club forward," Edward said.
Morgan has played most of his football career with the Bombers – barring a stint with the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL – since he joined the club in 2002 as a junior.
He progressed to the senior ranks in 2004 and has captained the Bombers in two grand finals.
Morgan's appointment was announced at a club function last night.
