LARA goal kicker Shaydon Bloomfield believes he could make the meteoric jump from GFL to AFL football.

Bloomfield, 25, is refusing to give up on a lifelong dream of reaching the big time and wonders what he could do if given the chance.

“I do believe I could play AFL and if I was given the opportunity I would grab it with both hands,” he said.

“I would put everything into it to give myself a chance to do something I’ve always wanted to.

“To play AFL would be amazing.

“It would be nice to kick the first goal on a Friday night under the lights at the ’G and hear the roar of the crowd.

“I would say you couldn’t beat that feeling.”

Despite not being on a VFL list, Bloomfield believes he has the ability needed to play at the higher level.

Since being recruited by Lara in 2012, he has made a name for himself as one of the best forwards in the GFL.

He was runner-up by one goal to former AFL star Russell Robertson in the league goal kicking award in 2012.

Then last year he went one better and won it.

Not only does Bloomfield, kick freakish goals, he also excites crowds on a weekly basis with his high-flying marks.

A standout was the screamer he took in last year’s inter-league clash with the Goulburn Valley.

He booted three goals in the GFL’s interleague win over Peninsula at the weekend — and is hoping talent scouts were watching.

Before the match he admitted “it could be a good chance for a lot of blokes to get spotted”.

The 179cm forward knows the most likely way to make his AFL dream come true is to get on the list of a VFL club first.

Having been on one before — at Werribee during the 2008 season as an 18-year-old — he is confident he can get that chance again.

“Sometimes you think to yourself you could be there if you are believing in yourself — and then sometimes you think that window has shut,” he said.

“But there is always that chance of getting your crack

“There is a long road to travel to get that success, but it’s one that I would love to take.”
