A YOUNG Bannockburn footballer could be plucked from the obscurity of the GDFL after capturing the attention of an AFL club.

Tiger Jack Brauman has been under the watchful eye of Collingwood recruiting staff in recent weeks, as VFL clubs line-up to secure his services.

“They’ve been to about three or four of his games,” Bannockburn coach Craig McGough said.

“I have a few contacts and they (Collingwood) rang me to inform me that they were going to have a look at him in the next few weeks with a view to next year.

“He’s our captain and he’s ready-made for the GFL and potentially could go on with his footy. He’s such a level-headed kid and he keeps doing the hard things.

“Just the way he approaches the game, and he’s never beaten, he’s got the traits of an Alan Woodman or a Jeff Boothroyd.”

VFL club Williamstown is also circling.

“They came and looked at Jack last year and him and Tom Worpel went and trained with them to potentially play with them this year,” McGough said.

“But Williamstown became a stand-alone club and their list wasn’t as big, so they didn’t pick him up. But because he’s attracted the attention of Collingwood, Williamstown is interested.

“It’s another pat on the back because he was overlooked by the Geelong Falcons. There must be some bloody good players down there if he couldn’t get a game.”

Brauman has been named in the best in four of five matches for the Tigers this season and was influential in the GDFL’s interleague win over Maryborough-Castlemaine on Saturday.

“He averages 15 tackles a game, that’s how well he’s players,” said McGough, who is a former development coach at GWS and the Brisbane Lions.

“He plays on-ball but going up the levels he’ll be more of a half-back flanker. His work rate is unbelievable for an 18-year-old.”
